Three weird facts surrounding the Elimination Chamber
Soon the Elimination Chamber
will open it’s door again. But while it’s no Chamber of Secrets
and everyone can obviously see what is going on between the chains,
there a still some barely known facts to be uncovered. Which country
has no Chamber and how could this structure get even more extreme?
Let’s find out!
1. In Germany the Elimination
Chamber is called “No Escape”
Germany is one of the bigger
markets the WWE is investing in. Hints that the german announce table
is at ringside, alongside the american and spanish ones. But
marketing in Germany is not always the same as in the rest of the
world. Every year when the Elimination Chamber rolls around, there is
confusion among fans, because WWE promotes the Pay-Per-View as ‘No
Escape’ rather than ‘Elimination Chamber’. Between 2003 and
2009 the Pay-Per-View between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania has
been called ‘No Way Out’ and everything was fine. But when WWE
re-branded the show simply ‘Elimination Chamber’ there was fear
that the show could be misunderstood and linked to the holocaust in
Germany. Therefore WWE renamed the Pay-Per-View ‘No Way Out’
again in Germany. WWE brought back the ‘No Way Out’ PPV as
their show for June in 2012, leading to another re-branding of ‘No
Way Out’ in Germany to ‘No Escape’.
2. WWE wanted to cancel the
Elimination Chamber
In 2015 suddenly there was no
Elimination Chamber between January and Mania-Month. A Pay-Per-View
called “Fastlane” took it’s place. WWE said most arenas these
days won’t support the structure anymore and transport costs where
getting very expensive. Many fans where upset so WWE brought back the
PPV only a few months later as a special event only on the WWE
Network. Featuring the first ever Tag Team Title Match inside the
Chamber and disastrous Intercontinental Championship Match, that fell
apart when Mark Henry’s pot was broken and he walked out of it to
early.
In 2016 there was no
Elimination Chamber, but the Chamber returned one year later with a
completely new design to become a regular again between Rumble and
Mania.
3. The Chamber once wasn’t
extreme enough
16 tons of steel. 16 feet tall.
The haunted structure of pain. No man stepping inside will ever be
the same coming out. That is how WWE has promoted the Chamber over
the years. But in 2006 that wasn’t enough. The members of the ECW
roster got weapons inside the Chamber. Thus creating the first and
only ‘Extreme’ Elimination Chamber. Backstage Politics between
Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon who couldn’t agree on Bobby Lashley
or CM Punk to win the match and various replacements ruined the match
and the reception by fans however and the extreme version was never
heard from again.
