The State of the WWE 2018
I've been aware of pro wrestling since 2005 and decided to watch WWE every week since 2008. RAW, SmackDown, ECW (later NXT), Pay-Per-Views, Mixed Match Challenge, Main Event, Superstars, 205live, Total Divas. Everything, every week. I never missed a RAW and SmackDown Episode. Not even in 2012, when RAW and SmackDown did not have a brand split anymore, John Laurinaitis was boring as hell every week and there was only one storyline around the main event and the other stars barely had anything to do.
That is not the case in 2018. We have a brand split and storylines. But despite that i did watch the full episode of RAW and SmackDown this week for the first time since 2008. I loved 205live and NXT this week, but why was i so disappointed that i would not tune into RAW and SmackDown?
Survivor Series was one of the most embarrassing shows i had to watch, made by WWE. This goes along with this years Backlash, WrestleMania and Crown Jewel, while the other shows never would reach an 'above average' rating by me. In my opinion WWE had the most talented roster ever. Literally anyone could become a WWE Champion with the right build. But why doesn't feel WWE like this most incredible thing ever right now? Well the main roster of WWE is just one big disappointment. NXT and 205live are awesome, other promotion deliver frequently. The argument 'but the WWE main roster is produced for a mainstream audience' is true, but empty seats and bad ratigns tell me the main stream roster s looking for something else to entertain themselves rather than watching WWE. The movies and shows are so incredible well told this day and age, people have to expect atleast a little bit of logic in wrestling storylines. Of course the WWE has to react to the audience rather quick sometimes and also injuries and other issues come into play and risk bigger storylines. But as NXT has proven with the 'Who attacked Aleister Black' storyline, you can work around that and tell a fantastic tale. Also 205live have been telling an epic tale with the Brian Kendrick/Drew Gulak storyline. So why is it that WWE MondayNight RAW and SmackDown Live can not deliver with that.
Why are their angles childish like Drake Maverick peeing his pants therefore ruining his character and the 205live GM and the run of AOP as Tag Team Champions?
Why does Charlotte Flair brutally turn on Ronda Rousey only to remain a babyface?
Why is Braun Strowman an unstoppable heel this week and a beloved babyface the next?
Where the bloody heel is Mojo Rawley?
Why does The Revival have do be on the loosing streak while they are the key for a serious Tag Team Division?
Why is The Big Show with The Bar?
What is going on with Shane McMahon and The Miz?
Why isn't Shinsuke Nakamura booked despite being the United States Champion?
Why is Brock Lesnar the Universal Champion when the audience hated the champion notbeing on the show every week when he's wrestling heels anyway (see Daniel Bryan)? Who do we cheer?
Is there are a way to just enjoy it for what it is and not start asking questions? Well. Maybe. I would like to invest in storyline and characters though. But when every championship reign is pointless and nothing is taking serious, where is the point? Where is the fun?
I wouldn't wanna stop watching WWE's main roster as a whole, but it seems like WWE is forcing me to do it. WWE needs to take itself a little bit more serious and return to building athces like they used to. And how about a real main event everyoneline looks forward to? Send the crowd happy for once.
Let the WWE main roster be presentable again. Awesome moments instead of pee jokes.
