10 Biggest Takeaways from WrestleMania Week
A Kid is (was) WWE Champion
You must be living under rock if you haven't heard it. At the biggest Wrestling Show of the year, a 10-year old boy named Nicholas became a WWE RAW Tag Team Champion. While Braun Strowman destroyed both (now) former RAW Tag Team Champions in Sheamus and Cesaro, a frightened Nicholas stood on the apron only waiting for the referee the ring the bell. The referee John Cone, who later turned out to be Nicholas' father, raised the arms of both Strowman and Nicholas, while the latter one struggled to lift the heavy championship belt in the air. Strowman, who has been tasked by RAW General Manager Kurt Angle to find a partner for his Championship Match at WrestleMania went out to the crowd and invited a 'random' child to the ring, only to show everyone he could beat Sheamus & Cesaro on his own. On the RAW episode after that both, of course, where stripped of the titles because a 10-year old can not hold a WWE title. But the record books will list Nicholas' victory forever and he also beat René Duprée's long standing record of the youngest champion in WWE of all time.
For 914 days Asuka has been undefeated in WWE. From her debut in NXT in 2015 to her match against SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at this year's WrestleMania. After winning the first ever Women's Royal Rumble earlier this year, Asuka waited some time announce which Champion she wanted to face at the grand daddy. While being a RAW Superstar, Asuka picked Charlotte from SmackDown to give us all the match of the two best female superstars under a WWE contract right now. But much to everyone's surprise, Asuka lost and the streak was over. While Asuka and Charlotte had one of the better matches of the night and Charlotte is definitley a believable individual to beat Asuka, nothing followed, in fact Asuka missed both RAW and SmackDown this week, while Charlotte lost her title due to Carmella's Money in the Bank Cash-In on SmackDown. It looks like a 914 day built got lost just to make the show less predictable. What a waste.
NXT Takeover is No.1
Not only Dave Meltzer loved NXT Takeover, everyone did. It was the (almost) perfect wrestling show. Epic moments, incredible storylines, massive star-power and mind-blowing matches. Legendardy wrestling journalist rated not one but two matches on the card his infamous 5 stars. Something a WWE program rarely achieves. But it is not all about ratings. It is about reception. I personally wasn't all to pleased by the women's match and the title change in the women's division. Everything else what exactly as i would like to have it. Even little details like the referee shirt in the Unsanctioned made this show bloody awesome. Everybody gave it all and more to put on a different, yet big and compelling show. A show that wasn't WrestleMania was the best show of the week and there is even room for more, it is incredible. This is wrestling. Better than ever.
TNA is not a No-Go anymore
After Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn lost their WrestleMania Match against Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon both tried to get RAW General Manager to sign them to a RAW Deal, because they are now banned from SmackDown. Angle replied with the surprised line, that he heard TNA is hiring. Angle, who worked for TNA Wrestling (now known as Impact Wrestling), for a large portion of his career, name-dropped the rival promotion on WWE's biggest show. A huge deal. Of course Impact's big days are long gone and TNA founder and former boss Jeff Jarrett is now under a WWE contract, which probably created the opportunity to mention TNA on WWE program now. Something that was unthinkable just a few years prior. But that is not all. A future DVD release of WWE Champion AJ Styles, who also worked for TNA, will feature TNA footage and even the Deletion Segments of Matt Hardy will soon find their onto WWE program somehow. Who knows, WWE might even release TNA content on the WWE Network. What a twist.
Less is more, Less is IIconic
Hell will be calling your name
For the first time over 10 years, Bobby Lashley returned to the WWE. But somehow his return doesn't feel big yet. Rumours say Lashley is set to become the next Universal Champion, either taking on Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar for the title in the near future. Lashley, who spend his time during his last and his current with the company being a MMA fighter and a TNA/Impact Wrestler, is a former United States Champion and 2-time ECW Champion, but he hasn't won a World Title in WWE yet. The future will show if WWE will finally pull the trigger on Lashley this time. One big mistake has already been done, WWE went out and changed his epic theme tune 'Hell will be calling your name' by Jim Johnston and replaced it with a rather generic tune, which probably harmed his reaction on RAW.
The Deadman needs no introduction
Never before has The Undertaker not been announced for a WrestleMania and showed up anyway. Challenged numerous times by John Cena in the upcoming weeks to the big show, he never answered the call. But at the show of shows, WWE's Phenom suddenly appeared and beat up Cena in just a few minutes. An odd segment, even stranger when you think about what happened last year. The Undertaker came out of retirement for that, or was he even retired? He did not appear on RAW or SmackDown after his victory over the Cenation Leader. We are living in a time where The Undertaker does not have to be announced for WrestleMania anymore. Wow.
No....NOOOOOOOO Way Jose!
NXT's No Way Jose appeared on RAW this week. In NXT he was the fun loving guy, who got all serious when the bell rang. His feud with Austin Aries put him on the map, but somehow even NXT forgot about him. Now he is on RAW and he introduced himself to the WWE as Adam Rose 2.0. He recieved the same party gimmick Adam Rose had couple of years ago and where is Rose now? The Rosebuds are now the Conga Line and that's it. The way WWE introduced Jose to the WWE Universe just shows that they don't care. I feel bad for Jose, who is actually a real good wrestler and promo, but this won't work. Awful and very unfortunate.
Ronda Rousey is awesome!
When Rousey arrived at the Royal Rumble, after Asuka won the honor and was about to decide which champion she is going to face at Mania, i was annoyed. She stole the spolight, couldn't cut a promo and kept pointing at the WrestleMania, an event i did not thing she'd belong. But then the former UFC Champion made clear: She's a fan and she is a hardcore fan. She wear white, yellow and red just like her and our hero Rowdy Roddy Piper did and learned how to cut a promo in no-time. And now she even owns the honor of having the best match at this year's WrestleMania! When everybody thought Triple H and Kurt Angle will carry the match, because they are the only real wrestlers there, Rousey's destruction of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon became a sight to be seen. With incredible timing and extremely awesome in-ring-action Ronda Rousey wrestled her way into our hearts. The Brian Kendrick trained Rousey and he did a hell of a job. I can't wait to see more of Ronda in the future.
