Rebuilding the Ascension
Once the most dominant force in the entire landscape of professional Tag Team Wrestling, Viktor and Konnor, collectively known as The Ascension, are currently facing a downside in their career. But both are extremely talented performers and they have all the tools to be a success in the business. Here is a plan that could turn cole into diamonds.
For 364 days The Ascension ruled the NXT Tag Team Division between 2013 and 2014 - a record that stands to this day. No team could touch The Ascension. But those days are long gone. In 2015 Konnor and Viktor were brought up to the Main Roster, were they became commentators mocked them for their similarities with legendary team for the past like Demolition or the Road Warrior. With in a short time the push of The Ascension was stopped and the team was degraded to an irrelevant status ever since for reason.
In April 2016 Konnor was suspended for violating the wellness policy of the WWE. Many thought the team could never recover. But, in a way, they did:
When the team of Fandango & Tyler Breeze, known as Breezango, invented the Fashion Files, a comedy segment on SmackDown LIVE which reached a very high populartiy in Fall/Winter of 2017, The Ascension become recurring characters on the show with the aim of becoming friends with Breeze and Fandango. Their obviously dropped their monster-heel persona to be a funny team right and there, but this was the key to a comeback for the Ascension. Currently WWE, despite the huge success that Fashion Files still is, does not air new episodes, but there is still a huge potential in the friendship-storyline between the Fashion Police and the most dominant team for 2013/14. The current SmackDown Tag Team Division sees the following teams:
- The Usos (current and long-time Tag Team Champions)
- The New Day (WWE's most succesful Tag Team of the modern era, currently feuding with The Usos)
- The Bludgeon Brothers (the new mysterious force in WWE, currently feuding with New Day and The Usos)
- Breezango (Ascension's friends)
- Rusev Day (the most popular act in WWE right now)
- Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable (just lost their Tag Team Title Opportunity)
How could Ascenson stick out of the crop? Right now the WWE Fans couldn't care less about them, but they still have a lot of love to offer for Breezango and the Ascension's connection to them. As long as that ship hasn't sailed, the friendship of Breezango and Ascension has to be exploided more. And then, when everbody feels save and Breezango maybe even challenged for the Tag Titles, The Ascension could turn on Breeze & Fandango to the shock of the crowd. All the heat in the world would be on The Ascension's side when they destroy the beloved Fashion Police. After that they can destroy, The Usos, The New Day and Rusev Day, because they found back to themselves. Back to their old way of success. Yes, a shocking turn after a long-time storyline investment would pay-off big time for the Ascension. This requires a lot of work by the creative staff, because The Ascension have not been on their winning ways for a long-time. It is their job to make them a believable threat on their path back to glory. What should follow is yet another record-breaking title reign to cement their legacy. The Ascension has so much potential, it would be a shame to let it side...and when there is a dominant champion, the other teams are trying to get better, which leads to great matches and a strong division.
The Ascension should RISE again.
