TIHANYI: An Incredibly Unique Wrestling Story

Peter Tihanyi is a name most european indy-wrestling fans are familiar with. However that wasn't always the case, of course.

He made his debut at wXw, Westside X-Treme Wrestling, in March 2021. There he lost his first match during the infamous "Covid Tapings". Just three years prior he had his debut in his home country of Hungary. 7 years after his debut at Hungarian Championship Wrestling, he now holds the richest price in European wrestling: The wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship. A championship lineage that reaches back to the likes of Malakai Black, Gunther, Bryan Danielson, Absolute Andy, John Klinger and Karsten Beck. Just to name a few.

His journey is that of a determined and special talent in a scene that is full of great white sharks, looking to stay afloat and reach the pinnacle of the industry.

He withstood all the trials, all tribulations and kept going. Tihanyi began learning his craft from industry greats like "The Arrows Of Hungary" (Icarus & Dover), an experienced and successful Tag Team that had competed all over Europe. In the Budapest Pro Wrestling Dojo Peter Tihanyi not only perfected his craft, he also began teaching the next generation at a very young age.

Soon his stock began rising and with championships came more bookings for companies like GWF, WrestlingKult, Passion Pro, PWÖ and RevPro. Everywhere across the continent this chant "Tihanyi, Tihanyi" became a familiar sound to everyone in attendance.

Everyone wanted a piece of Peter Tihanyi, the Hungarian wrestling sensation that looked like the second coming of Will Ospreay fused with the wrestling minds of the veterans in European wrestling.

Tihanyi gained even more of the fans' attention, when he competed in wXw's Ambition 14 tournament, showing of impressive mat-wrestling skills. It became clear for everyone that Peter Tihanyi is the future of the industry. As his chants got louder, wXw made an interesting move in 2023: They hired Tihanyi for a full-time role. In April 2023 Tihanyi became a Trainer at the wXw Wrestling Academy and moved to Germany in the process.

As he continued to collect gold in Germany, his role on wXw program became more and more significant as well. He began feuding with the AMBOSS, a group that included his past trainers the Arrows of Hungary aswell as the head trainer at the wXw Academy, Robert Dreissker. In addition, Laurance Roman was part of that team. Roman, much like Dreissker, became a regular foe of Tihanyi.

Peter Tihanyi wrestled mentors, and equally rising stars of the scene and juggled day-to-day life all while being a trainer in another country and a highly requested talent on the market.

The Hungarian eventually arrived where he belonged: The wXw 16 Carat Gold tournament. In 2022 Tihanyi left the tournament in the first round, in 2023 he advanced to the semi-finals and in 2024 he even reached the finals. There he wrestled an incredible match against his familiar foe Laurance Roman from AMBOSS, who turned babyface in the process.

Tihanyi suffered setbacks and frustration was building. Frustration eventually led Tihanyi to change his persona and turn against his best friend, Elijah Blum. Blum had become an ally to Tihanyi early on as they both worked together at the wXw Wrestling Academy and toured Germany alongside Anil Marik. Marik made the choice of sell-out and align himself with Robin Christopher Fohrwerk, which left Tihanyi and Blum at war with RCF's faction "High Performer Ltd."

During that time Peter Tihanyi fought wars with AMBOSS, High Performer Ltd. and many others, but never came close to gold in wXw again. That was until he decided to let Elijah Blum hanging. Much like Anil Marik did before him, Peter Tihanyi turned against his friend Elijah Blum and said to himself:
If you can't beat them, join them. While the AMBOSS was dead and gone at that point, High Performer Ltd. was well alive and Peter Tihanyi made the decision to put a name on what he had been doing for 7 years now: The High Performer became an official member of High Performer Ltd.

You could argue that what belongs together comes together. The stable had since recruited Icarus, one of Tihanyi's trainers and the leader Robin Christopher Fohrwerk used his group to aid Peter Tihanyi in winning the Shortcut To The Top 2024 Rumble Match for a chance at the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship. It was right there, where Tihanyi betrayed his friend Elijah Blum. The High Performers eliminated Blum from behind so No. 30 Peter Tihanyi only needed to make his entrance and enter the ring to win the match.

Then at the World Tag Team Festival 2024, it was showtime for Peter Tihanyi:

He had to face long-time rivals Laurance Roman and Robert Dreissker in a 3-Way to win that had eluded him for so long: The World Title. Peter Tihanyi did the unthinkable and pinned "The Avalanche" Robert Dreissker to capture his first World Championship at wXw.

The culmination of an epic rise on the European indie scene that started with humble beginnings in Hungary and now sees Peter Tihanyi on top of European wrestling at wXw. While Tihanyi now lifts up a World Championship, it is safe to say that his overall story does not end here.

Peter Tihanyi's incredibly unique wrestling story will continue and the pro-wrestling world has been put on notice, as Tihanyi keeps climbing up the career ladder.
