GWF Legacy: Celebrating 30 Years Of Modern German Indy Wrestling
Foto Credit: Jan Philip Welchering & A. LauerBack in 1995 founding an indy-wrestling promotion in Germany was not only incredibly ambitious, back in the day some might have called it downright crazy.
For that you have to know that in the Mid-90s wrestling was dead in Germany. The WWF was only slowly moving towards to boom period of the Attitude Era and this would not happen until two years later, WCW and ECW were getting fans to watch wrestling. But all that was developing miles away across the Atlantic Ocean. Wrestling in Europe, by Europeans? Not a familiar sight. Wrestling in Germany? Practically non-existent.
But this did not stop the two brothers Ahmed and Mike Chaer and their idea of the "German Wrestling Federation" in the heart of Germany's capital Berlin quickly became a hit. 1997 they added a training school and sky was the limit after that.
Today the GWF is one of the biggest promotions in Germany and by far the oldest to hold monthly events. Wrestling from Berlin withstood the test of time. No matter boom periods or hard times - GWF was always there!
In those 30 years GWF was home to many legends like Ulf Herman, Doug Williams, Orlando Silver, Tarkan Aslan, Jonny Storm, Joe E. Legend, Wesna or the late great "Bad Bones" John Klinger. At the same time it became the starting point for the stars of today like Axel Tischer, Pascal Spalter, Toni Harting, Erkan Sulcani, Ahura, Rambo, Fast Time Moodo or Metehan.
And still GWF continues to develop talent Aytac Bahar, Big Nik, Crowchester, Sultan Suzu or Tim Stübing.
In addition frequent guests include Laurance Roman, Peter Tihanyi, Robert Dreissker, Bloodhound Gang's Evil Jared and Carlito. The latter even is their current GWF Berlin Champion.
After 30 years GWF still knows how to present a deep roster that speaks to a modern audience. A testament to their durability.
Additionally over the years the Chaer brothers' experience in show business came in handy as they lend their expertise and talent to various German television productions for major German tv networks. On top of that they also build healthy relationships with promotions all across Germany like wXw and Project Nova.
Even beyond three decades of pro wrestling the Chaer brothers do not seem to slow down. They have build a loyal audience and loyal staff members, for example resident warm-upper and commentator Virgile or ring announcer Olaf. Special shoutout also to long-time commentator Walandi Tsanti.
All of this did not get unnoticed with industry greats like Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) from the UK or even World Wrestling Entertaintment (WWE). Years and years of effort lead to WWE Bash In Berlin, the, at the time, highest grossing WWE PLE of all time and the Double Impact Co-Joined Event of RevPro and GWF the summer of 2024.
Now GWF celebrates their LEGACY. This Sunday, November 2nd 2025 the wrestling world looks towards one place and one play only:
The Festsaal Kreuzberg in Berlin.
So let's take a quick look at the card before we continue:
GWF Tag Team Championship:
Sunshine Machine (c) vs. Gulyas Bros.

Agility from the UK in Sunshine Machine clashes with brute force from Hungary with the Gulyas Bros.
Sunshine Machine brings in the experience, but the Gulays Bros. are on the edge of breaking out as a Tag Team.
This match promises to be an absolute banger with lots of drama as both teams look to establish their Legacy.
GWF Women's World Championship & Independent Women's Championship (Winner Takes All, Falls Count Anywhere):
Jane Nero (GWF) vs. Katey Harvey (Independent)
Special Guest Ref: Blue Nikita
The first ever GWF Women's World Champion Katey Harvey takes on current champion Jane Nero.
All while GWF legend Blue Nikita is the referee. It does get more GWF Women's History than that.
The International Rematch
Mustafa Ali vs. Peter Tihanyi

The International Rematch
Mustafa Ali vs. Peter Tihanyi

Former WWE and TNA Star Mustafa Ali takes on the former GWF World Champion and Battlefield winner Peter Tihanyi in a rematch for the ages after last clash was ruined by the Blutsbrüder group 8 months ago.
THE MAIN EVENT:
GWF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, 3-WAY
Axel Tischer(c) vs. Rambo vs. Metehan

All three gentlemen are GWF Originals. While Tischer's and Metehan's careers also took global routes, Rambo mostly remained within the European indy scene. However by winning the GWF Battlefield at the same time (something that never happened before) Metehan and Rambo both have a claim at the GWF World Title. For the 18 year veteran Rambo this could be the first time he finally becomes a world champion. All eyes on Rambo at GWF Legacy! Will the two experienced World Champions decide who is on top yet again or can Rambo finally...after all those years...strike?
In addition the event will feature:
The Fast Time Moodo Open Challenge, The Debut Of Cory Zero, The 3-Way between Ahura, Aytc Bahar and Toni Harting and the Mixed Tag Team Champions Laurance Roman & Stephanie Maze in Action!
Wether new GWF Berlin Champion Carlito will be there or not, we shall see!
The entire show will stream live and for free on GWF's YouTube Channel.

With GWF turning 30 this also means that modern german indy wrestling turns 30.
If you are a fan of pro wrestling, this weekend is a time to celebrate. Look how far we have come.
And it all began 30 years ago at a cold night in autumn somewhere in Berlin.
Always remember: GWF means family. It means fire. It means shouting "ZWEI" after a two-count. It means LEGACY.
