Wrestling's Unholy Union With AI
AI has entered our everyday lives rather quickly.
But unfortunately, that is not a sign of quality. I personally do use Gemini/Chat GBT from time to time, especially when I use it to clean the dishes, or ask random thoughts that cross my mind.
Or for short videos, where I use it for subtitles. Both of these are, of course, done to cut time. So I do not have to use my fingers to Google.
More often than not, I end up doing it that way anyway. Wondering why I trusted AI in the first place. The end result is usually not great. So you could say I rarely use AI, and when I do, I often end up throwing the results into the bin. You could say that in recent times, I have grown even more frustrated with AI, even with the small number of situations in which I use it. Does anyone really use AI still to get actually useful results?
Anyway...let's talk about AI where it really hurts right now: Creation & Art!
Not at any point since AI became a thing, I felt the need to actually create or do some sort of art with AI.
Writing is one of my most favourite activities; the thought of having AI write just the smallest part of this text would cause me physical pain.

While, for example, european voice actors are fighting the fight of their literal lifelyhoods to not be replaced by some AI that tries to immitate their voices, wrestling has done it steps into the world of Articial Intelligence - and the results have been equally horrendous.
Wrestling is an art form. Wrestling is creative. And Wrestling would not be where it is today with new ideas and fresh approaches! These are the facts. And AI is not the next step, AI is not innovation!
Let's answer the big questions about why using AI in wrestling is just as bad as in any other art form:
1. AI Has No Heart
1. AI Has No Heart
AI does not create anything new! AI draws from things that have already existed. Literally. There is no brain attached in between anymore. It just takes - it rather STEALS - from things that human beings have worked on. Wether its your wrestling poster or music. That stuff is poorly mixed of what has already been out there.
And you know where this leads us? No more originality. No more creativity.
Everything is the same. And that is already eating at all of our mental health. If we realise it or not.
Art has a purpose. If art is not challenging our minds anymore, we simply become numb. We become Robots. Being creative and being impacted by art is a human need!
If everything is dull and mashed together, why would your show be more special than someone else's? Why would I spend my hard-earned money on that?

Yes, creativity means to fail, it means to invest time, and it does mean to invest money. If you can not produce a wrestling poster yourself, you need to hire a pro. But listen, if you can not even afford a wrestling poster, can you pay for an entire wrestling show? A wrestling poster is the simplest way of promoting a show. If you put out an AI picture, you are not bringing up expectations for your show to a high level - trust me!
Sometimes saving time is not really saving anything. And you can defintley safe money at the wrong ends, and you are doing it here.
On top that, the end results just never look inspiring at all. Nobody is expecting you to deliver a WWE-style perfect design. But you are selling something here, make it worth it!
2. This Is Just The Dreadful Beginning

Even though OpenAI had to close their SORA software and most AI companies are struggling to finance the future of their applications at the moment, wrestling as an art form - just like any other art form - is under attack.
Look! Any aspect of pro wrestling could be replaced to safe ressources and make everything even more efficient. Some of this may sound like fiction to you, but so did AI just a few years ago.
Where could AI change pro wrestling?
Commentary & Promo Video Narration & Ring Announcing
If voice actors can be replaced, commentary can eventually be next.
Once AI figured that out and promotions figured out how to use it, one promotion will dare to do it.
And the result will probably be dreadful. But if enough people consume it, others might follow.

Also, I can ‘not’ wait for Morgan Freeman's emotionless voice to welcome the crowd to a wrestling show. It is not as cool as you might think it is.
Writing Promos
I think we are months away from the first wrestling promo where everyone agrees that it was written by AI. It might even be happening already.

Entrance Themes
That is already happening. No more crowd reactions unless you put a sound at the beginning, so the audience knows who you are. Yes, music is expensive, but so are wrestling tickets. So the audience just deserves better, and keep in mind the wrestler has to listen to it multiple times a year. Torture is not nice.

Editing/Production
Just film the show with a camera at the back and then add some automatic zooms, filters and effects, and the wrestling show it done. Sounds terrible, right? Then let's just not do it. At all. Hire a cutter. If you want you to be watched at home, make sure the talent and the show look great, not soulless. Please do not ask AI. You do not want that.
The Wrestling Itself!
The Wrestling Itself!
People are already consuming entire movies made by AI. Sport Events seem like they are far away from competing with events, but have you seen that video of a goat taking a tombstone piledriver? Clips like these are gathering a ludicrous amount of views. Why would I pay to see 3 hours of humans fighting each other, if a generated John Cena can AA a horse from space?
Of course, I am exaggragting here, but with the right AI technology options to create things which are more fantastical than what a wrestling match can do - this could one day also become a reality, unfortunatley.

As you can see...
AI is getting too much room, too much acceptance in the pro wrestling business, and the actual harm is does is not seen.
I hope this text helps you to understand why using AI is wrong and there is actually little to no benefit for it when it comes to an artform. Thank you for your time.
